If it sheds any light for you, the reason for my warning is that I have no knowledge of Turkish history or culture and I should learn about it before discussing homosexuality....

Quoting thehandsom: It shows that we NEVER learnt what Ataturk was saying in the first place when he was talking about democracy and freedom..
|
This is soooo true! The same goes for reform and progress. I am convinced that Ataturk would be horrified to see that little has changed since he died and that his words and teachings are treated like a religion.

Quoting catwoman: I think Erdem should lock the thread and write the reason for locking instead of deleting it, if he thought that there was a problem. I think that deletion is reserved only for severe insults and deleting threads that he doesn't agree with is a bit of a dictatorship. |
I agree. And then the topics like 'why there was a problem and was it a problem really etc' should be allowed to be discussed.

Erdem, please restore the topic and at most just lock it, if you see a problem, but also write the reason for doing it!

I said before and I will reapeat again:
He was a great leader. He was a hero for all Turks.
He does not need laws (like 301) or censorship to be defended.

I think everybody can agree with that. It really says more about the people banning any kind of discussions/criticism/thoughts about him than about Ataturk. The fact that even hinting that atatruk could possibly have been homosexual is such an insult shows the incredible homophobia in Turkey. We probably couldn't have a better answer to the question of homophobia...
